Diwali in India
Celebrate the Festival of Lights with Local Community on a Journey through Rajasthan & Northern India
November 3–17, 2026
with Karen Score
Join Grace in Nature Travel for an unforgettable 15-day journey through the heart of Rajasthan and Northern India during one of the country's most beloved celebrations—Diwali, the Festival of Lights.
This special itinerary marks my 15th journey to India, a country that continues to inspire, challenge, and transform me each time I visit. Over the years, I have developed deep friendships and meaningful connections throughout India, and I am excited to share some of those experiences with you.
Our adventure begins in Delhi, where ancient history and modern life exist side by side. From there, we fly to the enchanting desert city of Jaisalmer, known as the Golden City. Rising from the sands of the Thar Desert, Jaisalmer captivates visitors with its magnificent living fort, ornate havelis, vibrant markets, and breathtaking desert sunsets.
We then journey to Jodhpur, the Blue City, where we will spend three nights during Diwali. This will be the heart of our journey. Through friendships cultivated over many years, we will have the unique opportunity to celebrate the Festival of Lights alongside local families and dear friends. Rather than simply observing the festivities, we will experience the warmth, traditions, hospitality, food, music, and joy that make Diwali one of the most meaningful times of year in India.
Continuing through Rajasthan, we visit the romantic lakeside city of Udaipur, often considered the most beautiful city in India. Here, grand palaces, colorful markets, and the shimmering waters of Lake Pichola create a magical atmosphere unlike anywhere else in the world.
In Jaipur, the Pink City, we'll explore magnificent forts, royal palaces, bustling bazaars, and centuries of fascinating history before continuing to Agra, home of the iconic Taj Mahal.
One of the highlights of the journey will be witnessing the Taj Mahal at sunrise, when the changing morning light reveals the timeless beauty of one of the world's most celebrated monuments. We'll also visit Agra Fort and enjoy time to relax and reflect before our journey back to Delhi.
Along the way, we will stop in the sacred town of Vrindavan and visit the Sandipani Muni School, where I have sponsored many girls throughout the years. This meaningful visit offers an opportunity to connect with local students and witness firsthand the impact that education can have on a community.
Throughout the journey, you'll stay in carefully selected luxury accommodations, travel with trusted local guides and drivers, and enjoy the comfort of a small group experience. As always, Grace in Nature Travel handles the details so you can fully immerse yourself in the culture, history, beauty, and spirit of India.
This is more than a sightseeing tour. It is an opportunity to experience India through meaningful connections, authentic cultural experiences, and the friendships that make travel truly transformative.

Delhi
India's vibrant capital is a fascinating blend of ancient history and modern energy. As one of the oldest continually inhabited cities in the world, Delhi offers an exciting introduction to India.
During our time here, we'll explore some of the city's most iconic landmarks, including Humayun's Tomb, a magnificent Mughal masterpiece that inspired the design of the Taj Mahal. We'll also visit Qutub Minar, the world's tallest brick minaret and a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and drive past India Gate and the Presidential Palace, symbols of modern India.
Delhi's colorful markets, bustling streets, and rich history provide a wonderful first glimpse into the beauty and complexity of this incredible country.
Jaisalmer
Known as the "Golden City," Jaisalmer rises from the sands of the Thar Desert like something from a storybook. Built from golden sandstone that glows in the desert sunlight, the city is one of Rajasthan's most enchanting destinations.
Highlights include exploring Jaisalmer Fort, one of the few living forts in the world where families still live and work within its ancient walls. We'll wander through its narrow lanes, visit beautifully carved havelis such as Patwon Ki Haveli, and enjoy stunning views across the desert landscape.
We'll also experience the magic of the Thar Desert, where rolling sand dunes, camel carts, and spectacular sunsets create an unforgettable atmosphere.
Jodhpur
Often called the "Blue City," Jodhpur is famous for its sea of blue-painted homes and the imposing Mehrangarh Fort that rises dramatically above the city.
Mehrangarh Fort is considered one of the most spectacular forts in India. Perched high on a rocky hill, it offers breathtaking views of the blue city below and houses a remarkable collection of royal artifacts and history.
We'll also visit Jaswant Thada, a stunning white marble memorial often referred to as the "Taj Mahal of Marwar," and explore local markets filled with textiles, spices, handicrafts, and traditional Rajasthani treasures.
Most importantly, Jodhpur will be the heart of our journey as we celebrate Diwali, India's Festival of Lights, alongside local families and dear friends. This rare opportunity allows us to experience the warmth, traditions, food, music, and hospitality that make Diwali one of India's most cherished celebrations.
Udaipur
Surrounded by shimmering lakes and rolling hills, Udaipur is often considered the most beautiful city in India. Known as the "City of Lakes," it offers a romantic atmosphere unlike anywhere else in Rajasthan.
We'll visit the magnificent City Palace, the largest palace complex in Rajasthan, which overlooks the waters of Lake Pichola. Its ornate courtyards, balconies, and royal rooms provide fascinating insight into the history of the Mewar Kingdom.
A boat ride on Lake Pichola offers stunning views of the famous Lake Palace and Jag Mandir Island Palace. We'll also have time to stroll through colorful markets, enjoy lakeside cafes, and soak in the relaxed charm that makes Udaipur such a favorite among travelers.
Jaipur
The capital of Rajasthan, Jaipur is known as the "Pink City" and is famous for its royal heritage, grand architecture, and vibrant culture.
A highlight of our visit is Amber Fort, a spectacular hilltop fortress known for its ornate halls, courtyards, and sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. We'll also explore the City Palace, still home to Jaipur's royal family, and admire the iconic Hawa Mahal, or Palace of Winds, with its intricate pink sandstone facade.
Jaipur is also renowned for its colorful bazaars, where artisans continue centuries-old traditions of jewelry making, block printing, textiles, and handicrafts.
Agra
Home to the iconic Taj Mahal, Agra is one of India's most celebrated destinations and an essential stop on any journey through Northern India.
One of the most memorable moments of our trip will be visiting the Taj Mahal at sunrise. Built by Emperor Shah Jahan in memory of his beloved wife Mumtaz Mahal, this architectural masterpiece is considered one of the greatest monuments ever created.
We'll also explore Agra Fort, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and former seat of the Mughal Empire. Behind its massive red sandstone walls lies a fascinating complex of palaces, courtyards, and royal chambers that played an important role in India's history.
After sightseeing, we'll enjoy time to relax, reflect, and celebrate our journey together.
Vrindavan
One of India's most sacred pilgrimage towns, Vrindavan is deeply connected to the life and teachings of Lord Krishna. The town is home to hundreds of temples and remains an important center of devotion and spirituality.
As we walk through its colorful streets, we'll experience a side of India that feels timeless and deeply spiritual.
A particularly meaningful part of our visit will be our time at the Sandipani Muni School, where we'll have the opportunity to meet students and learn more about the impact that education and community support can have on young lives. This visit reflects Grace in Nature Travel's commitment to meaningful connections and giving back whenever possible.
Diwali – The Festival of Lights
Diwali is India's most beloved holiday and one of the most magical times to visit the country. Celebrated by millions across India, Diwali symbolizes the triumph of light over darkness, hope over despair, and good over evil.
Homes, temples, and streets are illuminated with thousands of oil lamps, candles, and colorful decorations. Families gather to share meals, exchange gifts, perform traditional ceremonies, and celebrate together.
Experiencing Diwali in India is extraordinary. Celebrating alongside local families and friends offers a rare opportunity to participate in traditions that have been passed down through generations and creates memories that will last a lifetime.

“As a single person, I always wanted to see the world, but didn’t have a travel partner. I started traveling with Grace In Nature Travel in 2021. Since then, I have been on several trips with Karen Score and Grace in Nature Travel. On every trip, I have felt safe and cared for. Karen is an expert traveler and procures trips that combine beautiful and safe accommodations with local flavor that make you feel that you’re not just a tourist but are really engaging in the culture. Often, the trips incorporate a service to the community that you visit. Grace in Nature has helped me see the world and expand my horizons and I am forever grateful for that. I have just returned from India with Karen and am already looking forward to my next Grace in Nature adventure!”

“I recently spent two weeks on an incredible journey in Rajasthan, India. I joined a small tour of six people that was organized by Karen Score, of Grace in Nature Unlimited. Karen has extensive travel experience in India and across the globe, so my expectations were high. But she did an exemplary job that far surpassed those expectations.
Now that I’ve had the experience, I understand why she is so well reviewed and revered. From the moment we arrived at the airport in Delhi to the moment we departed, we were ushered in first class style though our entire adventure. Our group traveled from Delhi to Udaipur, Jodphur to Jaipur, then Agra and back to Delhi. Karen and her incredible hand-picked team of drivers and guides worked very hard to make sure we did not.
Karen’s ambitious and well-balanced itinerary unfolded beautifully. Her vast experience allowed us to be comfortable in all settings: palaces and museums, mosques and temples, elegant hotels, on bicycle rickshaws, desert sunset camel rides, and in the shops of highly skilled artisans. Her and her team handled and organized access to all sites, guides, tips, and restaurant choices. On longer drives we had well timed stops for chai, snack breaks and clean bathrooms. There were always various drinks and snacks in the transport vans and cars. Our luggage was managed with care at all the 5 star hotels. She helped us with local etiquette and always made sure we were safe. It all went flawlessly!
Karen and her team also took time to get to know each of us in the group. She made sure that our itinerary either dropped or added destinations or cultural events based on our interests and tastes. I love motorcycles. Karen surprised me with an unscheduled and deeply meaningful stop, the Om Singh Rathore/Bullet Baba Temple, a shrine dedicated to a local beloved prince, Om Singh Rathore, who died in a motorcycle accident at the site in 1988. The shrine is visited by travelers, professional drivers and motorcycle riders for blessings and to pay respect to the well-loved, local royal family. It was beautiful and, for me, moving on many levels. This is just one example of how Karen went out of her way to enrich the trip and to establish caring and personal connections.
But beyond the well thought out, flawlessly executed itinerary, Karen added a depth to the journey that was moving. She genuinely cares about everyone she is sharing her adventures with and brings a serene warmth and composure that is comforting and inspiring. In all the best ways, she felt like a friend, sister, and mother.
The last night we were together, Karen hosted a loving dinner that included our guide and driver. It felt like family. We ended the dinner with what Karen called “the appreciation circle.” It was a very moving way for us to share our feelings for each other and the incredible experiences we had shared.
Karen, you are the BEST. If you are planning a trip. I can’t recommend Karen Score and Grace in Nature Unlimited highly enough. Namaste.”

“Spirituality in India is not confined to temples or a single day of the week—it lives everywhere. This was the exact sentiment Karen Score, owner of Grace in Nature Travel, shared with us before our mother-daughter April 2026 trip. After two weeks exploring Rajasthan we can say her words perfectly captured our breathtaking two-week journey. India IS a deeply spiritual country, right down to the beautiful "Namaste" greeting recognizing the divine spark in another. Karen herself is the embodiment of this gracious philosophy. She is patient, generous and inclusive, answering every question we had before and during the trip. Her passion for India (having visited 14 previous times) is contagious. She ensured we were incredibly well-prepared with detailed written guides and went above and beyond by helping us with flights, visas, and even transportation to and from Newark airport.
Our small group of five clients felt incredibly protected and cared for thanks to Karen and our local guide, Yogi. Karen and Yogi have worked together for ten years. Their mutual respect and decade of partnership created an environment of complete trust and safety. Yogi kept us safe with his hand-picked private driver and gave expert advice on dining and shopping. Every moment felt intentional and magical. The intimacy afforded a small group of seven from diverse backgrounds and experiences meant we really connected during the two weeks as human beings. We all hope to stay connected via WhatsApp and FaceTime across California, DC, New York, and Delhi.
Would we go to India again? Yes! Would we go with Karen and Grace in Nature Travel? Absolutely. In fact, one guest in our group was on her second time doing this exact itinerary with Karen. That speaks volumes. We cannot recommend Karen and Grace in Nature Travel highly enough!”
